Torroella de Montgrí,is located some 6 kilometres (4 miles) away from L’Estartit between the Montgrí mountain range and the river Ter. To walk through Toroella is a journey through time. Visitors must see the following highlights: the remains of the walled Torroella, the gateway of Santa Caterina (XI-XIII AD), the tower of Les Bruixes (Witches´ tower, XV-XVI AD), the two symbols of Torroella: the gothic church Sant Genís (XIV-XIX AD) and the castle of Montgrí (XIII AD); and from the 16th and 17th centuries there are La Casa Pastors and La Casa Del Metge in the street Calle Major. Last but not least a further special place to recommend: the colonial style houses built by the Americans which went back to their countries after having made a fortune and that nowadays also belongs to the architectural archive. www.visitestartit.com

Peratallada, situated some 17 kilometres (10 miles) from L’Estartit was declared a historic-artistic monument and is one of the most important centres in Empordá in respect of mediaeval architecture. Noteworthy are the fortified castle with its homage tower (Torre del Homenaje), the palace (XI-XIV AD), the walls (XII-XIII AD), and the church dedicated to Sant Esteve (Romanesque, from the early 13th century).  www.forallac.com

La Bisbal,Is located some 22 kilometres (14 miles) from L’Estartit and is the capital of the Baix Empordá as well as the pottery center in Catalonia. Cruïlles,situated about 24 kilometres (15 miles) from L’Estartit, is a medieval village with an outstanding ancient Benedictine monastery from the 17th century. Pals,situated about 14 kilometres (9 miles) from L’Estartit, is one of the most interesting places in the region in respect of nature and history as well as for the variety of its landscapes (spectacular views to the nature reserve of the Medas Islands) and its cultural heritage. This ancient village with its gothic origin is one of the most amazing and famous places of the Baix Empordá. Begur,you will find some 22 kilometres (14 miles) from L’Estartit. It is one of the most important tourist centres of the Baix Empordá. Figueres,is set about 40 kilometres (25 miles) from L’Estartit. It is the most important of the cities bordering on France. We recommend visiting the castle Castillo de Sant Ferran built during the reign of Fernando VI of Spain (1743) – one of the most sophisticated fortresses in the world especially in respect of its outer fortifications as well as the parish church dedicated to Sant Pere. L´Escala,you will find about 13 kilometres (8 miles) from L’Estartit. L’Escala offers a variety of beautiful landscapes and colonies from modern urban settlements directly at the coast, the historic centrer to the medieval village Sant Martí nearby. One of its heritages is the beaches with the fine sand, the shallow water, and the lovely bays. Do not miss to visit the Greek ruins near Empúries that are more than 2.000 years old. In 218 B.C. the Roman forces, guided by Cornelio Escipión, occupied the Greek settlement. In the era of the emperor Augusto both towns were united and named Municipium Emporiae. Ullastret,located some 15 kilometres (10 miles) from L’Estartit, was counted among the largest Iberian sites in Catalonia that were known in that era. The settlement is to be dated from the 11th to the 2nd century B.C.

Púbol,situat a 20 Km de L’Estartit, és una petita localitat del Baix Empordà amb un inestimable valor paisagístic. A Púbol hi trobem el Castell Gala-Dalí (s.XI), una construcció medieval contigua a l’església, amb el qual Dalí va obsequiar a Gala. Aquest obsequi seria el refugi de Gala, on Dalí, com ell mateix afirmava, només hi podria accedir sota rigurosa invitació.
